Cosmetic dentistry focuses on improving the appearance of a person's smile, teeth, and overall oral aesthetics. It includes a variety of procedures aimed at enhancing the color, shape, size, alignment, and overall appearance of teeth. Here are some common procedures in cosmetic dentistry:

  1. Teeth Whitening: Also known as teeth bleaching, this procedure lightens teeth and helps remove stains and discoloration. It can be done professionally in a dental office or at home using dentist-prescribed kits.

  2. Dental Veneers: These are thin shells, usually made of porcelain or composite resin, that are bonded to the front surfaces of teeth to improve their appearance. Veneers can correct teeth that are discolored, chipped, cracked, or misshapen.

  3. Dental Bonding: Bonding uses a tooth-colored composite resin material to repair chipped, cracked, or discoloured teeth. It can also be used to fill gaps between teeth (diastema) and to reshape or lengthen teeth.

  4. Dental Crowns: Crowns, or caps, are tooth-shaped covers that are placed over damaged or decayed teeth to restore their shape, size, strength, and appearance. They can also improve the alignment of teeth and their overall appearance.

  5. Dental Implants: While primarily a restorative procedure, dental implants can also be considered cosmetic because they replace missing teeth with artificial teeth that look and function like natural teeth.

  6. Orthodontics: Braces and clear aligners (like Invisalign) are used to straighten crooked teeth, correct misaligned bites (malocclusions), and improve overall dental alignment, which can significantly enhance smile aesthetics.

  7. Gum Contouring: Also known as gum reshaping or tissue sculpting, this procedure is used to reshape uneven gum lines to improve the appearance of the smile. It can be done for aesthetic reasons or to treat gum recession.

  8. Smile Makeover: This involves a comprehensive assessment of the smile aesthetics and customizing a combination of cosmetic dental procedures to achieve the desired smile appearance.

Cosmetic dentistry not only enhances the visual appeal of teeth and smiles but can also improve self-confidence and quality of life. It’s important to consult with a qualified cosmetic dentist to discuss your goals and determine the most suitable procedures based on your oral health and aesthetic preferences.
